DOME ( DUOMO )
The Cathedral octagonal Dome was erected between 1418 and 1434 to a design which Filippo Brunelleschi entered in a competition in 1418, but which was only accepted, after controversy, in 1420.

The Baptistry of San Giovanni, octagonal in plan, is totally clad in slabs of white Carrara and green Prato marble.
It sits opposite the Church of Santa Maria del Fiore.


Giotto bell's tower is adjacent to the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, and it is clad in white, red and green marble, It was begun by Giotto in 1334 and completed by Andrea Pisano.





OLD BRIDGE ( PONTE VECCHIO )
Ponte Vecchio ( Old Bridge ) is the most ancient and characteristic bridge in Florence. It was probably already existing  during the Roman period.





It is a splendid example of a miltary fortress, overlooking Boboli Garden. It was built in the sixteenth century by Bernardo Buontalenti, commissioned  by Grand Duke Ferdinado I.
